This is a philosophy and a state of mind as much as it is an activity. Oscar Mike is a form of Military speak for staying On Mission.  Our cadets have made a commitment to Stay On Mission (Stay Oscar Mike). Meaning they realize their primary mission is to stay on track to graduate “college and/or career ready”.  Step one is doing all they can to prepare themselves physically, psychologically, and academically for life after graduation.  Oscar mike missions range from community service activities to extreme fitness challenges.  Oscar Mike members encourage other cadets to participate in study halls, engage in peer tutoring and come out for a wide range of team building events hosted by the corps.

This is the AFJROTC Honor Society.  Cadets must have an “A” in JROTC and maintain an overall 3.0 GPA. These cadets help tutor other cadets and perform outreach activities with Union elementary schools.

This team works to promote healthy living, recycling, and clean energy.  They organize community service projects focusing on Clean-up days on various Union campuses.

This team competes in a nation-wide competition against other JROTC units around the country for scholarships and other forms of national level recognition.

This organization is comprised of three teams.

• Armed Drill Team – Competes in Drill Competitions using replica Springfield 1903 rifles.
• Unarmed Drill Team - Competes in Drill Competitions focusing on unarmed military drill.
• Color Guard Team – This team competes in competitions demonstrating a mastery of flag protocols and movements.

Members taken from our competitive drill team conduct patriot ceremonies, present national colors at sporting and special events.  The team is trained to perform Saber honors, Flag folding, Flag retirements and Funeral honors. They perform other ceremonies as needed.  This team has an incredible reputation for professionalism among the Veteran community in the greater Tulsa area.

Flag Detail – As an introduction to Honor Guard and basic US Flag Protocol, all members of the UFA classes will participate in raising and lowering the flags at the UFA.  These ceremonies are known in the military as Reveille (morning colors) and Retreat (evening colors).

Mr. & Miss Union & Graduation - Saber Detail and color guard participate in these two important Union events.

This team represents Union in state, regional and national level “Raider” competitions.  Raider is a competitive program focused on teaching military skills, physical fitness, and developing the Warrior mindset.

This team is often comprised of members of the Raider Challenge Team.  They focus on mastering all elements of Land Navigation while striving for high levels of fitness.  JROTC Orienteering competitions are in their infancy here in Oklahoma.  Orienteering is a sport that combines cross-country running/hiking with land navigation skills.  Teams of competitors seek to find a series of navigational points on a course in rugged terrain. Teams compete against each other, and the clock determines the winner.

This is another new initiative at Union JROTC. This team competes in local, regional, and national level competitions using specialized air rifles. Cadets can earn college scholarships and even compete for a spot on the US Junior Olympic team.

Beginning in Spring of 2024, Union AFJROTC is implementing a college level drone curriculum and will be seeking out drone competitions in the area.  This curriculum comes directly from Rogers State University and earns cadets concurrent credit and the potential award of a certificate of technical competency in Drone Technology.

Cyber-Security (Cyber Patriot) In conjunction with the Drone program, instructors from Rogers State University will also instruct cadets on the fundamental knowledge and skills the form the basis for a Cyber Security certification.  These skills prepare cadets to compete in JROTC Cyber Patriot competitions and events.

Current cadets and in-bound freshmen are encouraged to jump start their Corps experience by attending the JROTC ‘day-camp” held each July at the UFA.  Cadets learn and perfect military drill, physical fitness and build relationships that will help them in the coming year.

Selected members of the JROTC corps of cadets are able to participate in the Cadet Leadership Camp held each summer.  This camp is hosted by different JROTC units, usually at military bases or college campuses.  Cadets who attend these camps normally have been chosen for greater leadership roles within the cadet corps.

This is the JROTC version of the Prom.  It is a formal Military Dinner held in accordance with timeless military protocol.  After the formal military portion is complete the dancing begins.  The Military Ball is the culmination of a year’s worth of planning and is one of the highlights of the year.

Each quarter, parents are invited to attend and participate in a formal promotion ceremony where cadets are promoted to their next cadet rank.  This is an enjoyable way to recognize the hard work cadets due to earn their next promotion.

Each year cadets participate in the Tulsa Veteran’s Day Parade.  This event is the third largest Veteran's Day Parade in the USA. 

Working in conjunction with two honored non-profit organizations, Eagle Ops and the Blue Star Mothers, Union AFJROTC helps host the Welcome Home Run.  This event has become a cherished event among area veterans.  Union JROTC has been there since the beginning. Not only do cadets help set up the run, but they also participate in their own unique way.  Cadets spend the month of October gathering supplies to donate to the Blue Star Mothers.  They put those items in rucksack and carry those rucksacks for the duration of the 5K march. Once the march is over, the items are donated to the Blue Star Mothers.  Annual cadet donations over the last 10 years have an average monetary value of $2,500.00.

Each December Union cadets participate in the ceremonial laying of wreaths on the graves of US service men and women at Floral Haven cemetery.

Twice a year cadets work with the Oklahoma Blood Institute, the American Red Cross and our school nurses to host blood drives at Union High School.

Every year in early May, our cadets come together to recognize the accomplishments of some of our most outstanding cadets.  The formal ceremony recognizes these cadets, honors our departing seniors, and allows for the formal Cadet changing of command. In this time-honored ceremony, the outgoing senior commander relinquishes command to the new commander who will guide the corps forward into the coming year.

Every Memorial Day, cadets wrap up their academic/service year by raising Veteran’s Flags again at Floral Haven Cemetery.  Union JROTC has been the largest unit present every year since the beginning of the program.  We are the only unit present who is always in military uniform for this event.
