Career Connect

The Union Career Connect program provides students the opportunity to explore a variety of careers while still in high school, thus leading to more informed post-graduation decisions and more engagement between students and elective coursework.

Union Career Connect serves as a bridge for students interested in receiving training while still in high school which allows them to pursue a career and/or specialized career training upon graduation. Students enroll in one of the Career Connect classes as an elective through Union High School and then are placed in career internships or service roles according to their interests.

Students complete coursework to fulfill an academic component within the program. For example, Union’s manufacturing pathway allows students to complete coursework with a Tulsa Community College instructor. The Automotive Technicians Program has on-line Ford Training curriculum. Service Learning students complete a structured written reflection tying service experience back to specific learning goals.

About Career Connect

Career Connect is designed to give juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn through real-world experience. Union High School students enroll in an elective class and are placed in career internships or community service roles tailored to their particular interests. The program allows students to explore potential careers before graduation, helping them to make more informed decisions about their future.

Our students also have the opportunity to earn college credit and technical certifications (depending upon their area of interest) while still in high school. Paid internships and summer jobs are even available within some programs.* After graduation, many students will attend college or seek other specialized career training because of their experience with Career Connect, and a number of Union students have successfully transitioned to full-time employment with Union’s Career Connect partners.

Service Learning and Job Shadow

Students can use 1-2 elective class periods a day to perform community service or participate in job shadowing within the community. Students are placed, based on their interests, in a wide variety of business and industry. Examples include dental offices, veterinarian clinics, marketing firms, attorney offices, architect and accounting firms, just to name a few. Please contact a Career Advisor for more information.

Job Out

Students who work can be approved to leave campus 6th hour (2:20-3:20) to attend a paid working position. Students, not business partners need to arrange for Job Out. For more information, contact teacher Glenn Howard.

Union’s Career Connect program cannot happen without the support and participation of numerous local businesses and community organizations. The College/Career Center is continuously looking for new partnerships that will expand the types of internships and opportunities available to students. Our business partners have found that being a part of Career Connect not only gives them the sense of satisfaction that comes from giving back and investing in our students, but also provides an opportunity for them to grow their talent and workforce, recruit highly capable and trained personnel, and increase productivity in their workplace.

On Site Job Interviews

Business partners can schedule a block of time 1-3 hours, where they set up an informational booth in our College & Career Center. In the past, companies have held on site interviews for interested students, or just had information and resources to distribute.
